Plans discussed to migrate to NG911

911 Director John Tracy and Asst. Director Marcie Bristor met with 911 Coordinating Council representatives Scott Eckberg and Phil Ryan yesterday to initiate plans for Sumner County’s migration to “Next Generation 9-1-1”.

Next Generation 9-1-1 (or NG911) is the latest technology in the routing of 9-1-1 calls.  Currently calls are routed via analog telephone lines which will soon be obsolete.  In preparation, the State of Kansas has established an IP (Internet Protocol) network for the routing of 9-1-1 calls which will allow the delivery of text messages and eventually other data formats to the 9-1-1 dispatcher.

Sumner County is scheduled for cut over this fall.
